White Paper/Brief
This health policy brief focused on federal and state policies created as a response to COVID-19 that also work to diminish health disparities and inequities. Interventions targeted social needs in the pandemic, identifying populations in need, and utilizing funding.
Promising Practices that show evidence of effectiveness in improving public health outcomes in a specific real-life setting, as indicated by achievement of aims consistent with the objectives of the activities, and are suitable for adaptation by other communities.

Peer Review Study
The intervention outlined in this study took place at a hospital in Italy, and was designed to reduce or prevent provider burnout during the onset of the pandemic. The intervention included having six psychologists always present in the clinical setting to provide on-site as needed services to physicians, nurses, and other hospital staff. A PTSD short scale survey was also conducted to better understand the mental health needs of the providers in the hospital (such as psychosis, sleep problems, mania, suicidal ideation, and more). Providers noting mild to moderate symptoms were offered up to five sessions with a psychologist or psychotherapist.
Best Practices that show evidence of effectiveness in improving public health outcomes when implemented in multiple real-life settings, as indicated by achievement of aims consistent with the objectives of the activities.

In this article researchers in Santa Clara, California, developed and tested a computer algorithm to predict language needs when performing contract tracing in the community. Census data and mortgage data was used to build the model, which was evaluated using a randomized control trial design, and surveys were administered to the contract tracing staff to learn about their experiences with language discordance. Results indicate that the intervention decreased the amount of time between when the case is opened and when the interview with the individual is conducted.

Peer Review Study
Based on a literature review, the article synthesizes strategies used to prevent interruption of care for persons with opioid use disorders (SUDs). The review included OUD treatment and harm reduction services in five continents and a range of settings from substance use treatment to street outreach programs. Innovative service modifications to adapt to COVID-19 circumstances primarily involved expanded use of telehealth services (e.g., telemedicine visits for buprenorphine, virtual individual or group therapy sessions, provision of donated or publicly available phones), increased take-home medication allowances for methadone and buprenorphine, expanded uptake of long-acting opioid medications (e.g. extended-release buprenorphine and naltrexone), home delivery of services (e.g. MOUD, naloxone and urine drug screening), outreach and makeshift services for delivering MOUD and naloxone, and provision of a safe supply of opioids.

White Paper/Brief
This white paper provides a framework to engage and build trust among communities of color and tribal communities to help achieve equitable distribution of and access to the COVID-19 vaccine. The framework proposes a series of steps to guide community involvement in the design and leadership of strategies to share information, increase vaccine confidence and receptivity, deliver and administer vaccines, and closely monitor and report on results.

Case Study
This article lists key findings and considerations for jurisdictions and communities regarding ongoing COVID-19 pandemic operations across the country as they relate to persons with disabilities. For example, individuals may need additional support to shop online for food or connect with organizations for food access. In addition, access to COVID-19 information may be difficult to access if websites are not 508 compliant, and a lack of internet access can compound challenges. Finally, some case studies are included for how communities responded to these challenges.

Peer Review Study
This article presents the results of a non-randomized controlled trial comparing in-person vs. telemedicine treatment for pregnant women with opioid use disorder in South Carolina. The authors found no statistically significant difference in treatment outcomes for women who received care in-person vs. via telemedicine, and no statistically significant difference in outcomes for the newborns of women in these respective groups. The authors were unable to assign trial participants to telemedicine vs. in-person care at random due to the inability of some rural patients to attend treatment in person. Also, the sample size was not sufficient to achieve ~80% power to detect a difference between the two groups. At the same time, the practice strategy is considered useful for helping to deliver telehealth treatment for vulnerable populations, including pregnant and newly parenting people with substance use disorder, and people living in rural communities.

Systematic Review/Meta-Analysis
This is a list of recommendations based on a review of the literature focusing on promoting health equity in the delivery of virtual care. The authors conducted a narrative review of literature on health equity and virtual care during the COVID-19 pandemic published in 2020, describing strategies that have been proposed in the literature at three levels: (1) policy and government, (2) organizations and health systems, and (3) communities and patients. They discuss three strategies for promoting health equity through virtual care: (1) simplifying complex interfaces and workflows, (2) using supportive intermediaries, and (3) creating mechanisms through which marginalized community members can provide immediate input into the planning and delivery of virtual care.

White Paper/Brief
This article describes strategies to address social determinants of health (SDoH) and recommendations to reduce disparities based on the health justice framework. The health justice framework offers three principles: structural, supportive, and empowering. First, legal and policy responses must address the structural determinants of health. Second, interventions mandating healthy behaviors must be accompanied by material support and legal protections to enable compliance while minimizing harm. Third, historically marginalized communities must be engaged and empowered as leaders in the development and implementation of interventions and the attainment of health justice. The article applies this framework to the following SDoH: discrimination, poverty, health care, housing, and employment.

Case Study
This case study profile provides several examples of disability-focused community approaches. For example, a drive-through testing resource was created by the Northwest ADA Center, which provides ways to address various considerations for testing sites, such as wheelchair access, service animals, people who are deaf, and people who are blind. Other examples include a mobile testing unit for individuals with disabilities in Union County, NJ, creating a reserved time for testing access for individuals with disabilities, conducting a risk analysis of testing sites for accessibility, and providing interpreter services at testing sites.
