Peer Review Study
This study looks at survey data from the 2020 U.S. Household Pulse Survey to estimate the associations between state-specific mobility restrictions and well-being across historically excluded groups, including those groups at the intersections of race/ethnicity, sex, and income categorizations. Results found that low-income and African American populations are most likely to be affected by lockdown restrictions, including unemployment, food insufficiency, mental health problems, inaccessibility of medical care, rent or mortgage defaults, and class cancellations.

This study describes demographic characteristics and hospital bed capacities of the five New York City boroughs and evaluates whether differences in testing for COVID-19, hospitalizations, and deaths have emerged as a signal of racial, ethnic, and financial disparities. Results showed disparities among the boroughs. Bronx, with the highest proportion of racial/ethnic minorities, the most persons living in poverty, and the lowest levels of educational attainment, had higher rates of hospitalization and death from COVID-19 than the other boroughs.

This research links test results from a national laboratory database to the residential ZIP code from U.S. Census data, comparing positive rates of COVID-19 by race and ethnicity. The results show a correlation between ZIP codes with the highest proportion of Black and Hispanic populations and the highest rates of COVID-19.

Peer Review Study
This article conducted a cross-sectional study of 351 Massachusetts cities and towns from January 1-May 6, 2020, to understand what demographic, economic, and occupational factors are affecting COVID-19 incidence rates. Results found that non-Latino Black and Latino populations are at most risk of contracting COVID-19. Addressing factors like healthcare access for foreign-born non-citizens, crowded housing, and the protection of food service workers may help mitigate spread among minority populations.

Peer Review Study
This study conducted three different approaches to identifying disparities to the Hispanic community in Prince Williams Health District, Virginia. In June 2020, the team conducted a quantitative study of Hispanic residents, key informant interviews of local leaders, and focus group discussions with Hispanic community members to identify factors contributing to disparities. Results found that certain factors greatly impacted the Hispanic participants of this study — factors such as limited awareness of COVID-19 resources and difficulty implementing prevention practices due to work conditions and large household numbers.

Systematic Review/Meta-Analysis
This article details a systematic review of current literature sources to identify how the Latinx community experiences disparities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The review found literature using population data that showed policies impacting access to health insurance, health care, sick leave, childcare, and historic wage disparities remain consequential in perpetuating existing disparities. A review of the results of all studies selected for the review is available within the article.

The authors examine how the intersection of race and religion influences perceptions of COVID-19 vaccinations. Data for this study come from online surveys conducted in 12 congregations between October and December 2020. The findings suggest that the intersection of race and religion should be considered when designing immunization programs, for instance by fostering collaborations and dialogue with faith leaders of racial minority congregations.

In this paper, the authors explore the relationships between structural racism and the Black-White disparity and Hispanic-White disparity in COVID-19 vaccination rates across 45 U.S. states. The authors use racially stratified vaccination data to conduct a detailed exploration of vaccination disparities within the United States for both the non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic populations compared to the non-Hispanic White population.

Data Collection Tool
The Mapping Medicare Disparities (MMD) Population View provides a user-friendly way to explore and better understand disparities in chronic diseases, and allows users to: (1) visualize health outcome measures at a national, state, or county level; (2) explore health outcome measures by age, sex, race and ethnicity; (3) compare differences between two geographic locations (e.g., benchmark against the national average); and (4) compare differences between two racial and ethnic groups within the same geographic area.
