This article details the work of the Asian Health Services (AHS), a Federally Qualified Health Center located in Alameda County, California. In May 2020, AHS sought to document the experiences and needs of the Asian American community they serve through a cross-sectional survey. The surveys were available in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, traditional Chinese, and Korean. Results display the diverse needs of the Asian American community, including issues with access to testing, anti-Asian discrimination, and language barriers offer several barriers to this community. This article examines the relationship between changes in health-related socioeconomic risks (HRSRs) and mental health for women ages 18-90 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data was collected through a survey that asked questions about any patterns of change in HRSRs (food insecurity, housing instability, interpersonal violence, and difficulties with utilities and transportation). The results found that 40% of women had one or more prepandemic HRSRs, with an increase in HRSRs experience during the pandemic. The odds of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress symptoms are two or three times higher among women who reported at least one HRSR.

This article parallels the works of the multidisciplinary academic group on children and coronavirus (MACC) in Israel with a multidisciplinary team from John Hopkins’ own efforts to create data-driven solutions to minimize health and education inequities for children throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This project produced several outputs including a series of free, web-based, school-reopening modules for school and district administrators; a 2020-2021 School Reopening Tracker based on publicly available data sources; a Teacher & School Staff Vaccination COVID-19 Dashboard; and a COVID-19 Global Education Recovery Tracker. This resource discusses public transportation as a strategy to reduce healthy inequity. This policy brief details how public transportation options can improve health and health equity by reducing traffic crashes and air pollution, increasing physical activity, and improving access to medical care, healthy food, vital services, employment, and social connection. The brief explains how public transportation is funded, a few interventions that align transportation and public health goals, as well as guidance for future work.

Case Study
The Rebuilding Neighborhoods Initiative convened community organizers, small business owners, and corporations in the technology and innovation sector to develop community-centered, implementable solutions addressing gentrification and the lack of affordable housing in three greater Boston neighborhoods. Six monthly meetings were held on topics related to affordable housing. Each neighborhood had a team of 5-6 individuals who were developing and committing to shared goals towards equitable development.
