Summary Report/Recommendations
This article parallels the works of the multidisciplinary academic group on children and coronavirus (MACC) in Israel with a multidisciplinary team from John Hopkins’ own efforts to create data-driven solutions to minimize health and education inequities for children throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This project produced several outputs including a series of free, web-based, school-reopening modules for school and district administrators; a 2020-2021 School Reopening Tracker based on publicly available data sources; a Teacher & School Staff Vaccination COVID-19 Dashboard; and a COVID-19 Global Education Recovery Tracker. Links to all these resources are included in the article.
Promising Practices that show evidence of effectiveness in improving public health outcomes in a specific real-life setting, as indicated by achievement of aims consistent with the objectives of the activities, and are suitable for adaptation by other communities.

Peer Review Study
This article looks at the use of mobile technology in England to track and monitor COVID-19 cases. Based on a panel study conducted during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, this study looks at reasons behind the adoption or lack of usage of the NHS track-and-trace application. Results showed users are less likely to use due to data privacy issues and government trust.

Peer Review Study
This study looked at COVID-19 surveillance and outcome data and analyzed positivity rates, hospitalizations, and mortality rates by sociodemographic and comorbidity factors to determine if specific factors are associated with a higher likelihood of COVID-19 infection. Results found that non-Hispanic Black people and Hispanic individuals had higher infection rates.

RELEASE DATE:
Systematic Review/Meta-Analysis
This systematic review examines COVID-19 literature on infections, hospitalizations, or deaths by race and ethnicity in the United States. Results found that Black and Hispanic populations experience higher rates of COVID-19 infection and COVID-19 related mortality, but similar rates of case fatality.

Summary Report/Recommendations
This article discusses incorporating geographic information science and technology (GIS&T) into COVID-19 pandemic surveillance, modeling, and response. Applications include: 1) developing spatial data infrastructures for surveillance and data-sharing; 2) incorporating mobility data in infectious disease forecasting; 3) using geospatial technologies for digital contact tracing; 4) integrating geographic data into COVID-19 modeling; 5) investigating geographic social vulnerabilities and disparities; and 6) communicating the status of the disease or status of facilities for return-to-normal operations.

Summary Report/Recommendations, Systematic Review/Meta-Analysis
This report discusses a scoping review conducted to identify social determinants of health (SDOH) that are risk factors for, or associated with outcomes of, COVID-19, and to understand the definitions, characteristics, and measures of SDOH data elements as they were used in studies analyzing statistical associations with the risk for COVID-19 infection and COVID-19-related outcomes in the United States. The granular evidence provided by the scoping review findings calls for the standardization of SDOH data across health care, public health, and research.

White Paper/Brief
This brief synthesizes key accomplishments and lessons learned based on interviews with 10 state COVID-19 health equity task forces represented in the COVID-19 Health Equity Learning Network. In addition, it highlights how the network informed or supported efforts led by these task forces and reflects on focus areas to inform priority-setting for future initiatives.

Summary Report/Recommendations
This report recommends that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) adopt new practices for collecting data on sex, gender, and sexual orientation — including collecting gender data by default, and not conflating gender with sex as a biological variable. The report recommends standardized language to be used in survey questions that ask about a respondent’s sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Better measurements will improve data quality, as well as the NIH’s ability to identify LGBTQI+ populations and understand the challenges they face.

Peer Review Study
The growth of COVID-19 infections in England raises questions about system vulnerability. Several factors that vary across geographies, such as age, existing disease prevalence, medical resource availability and deprivation, can trigger adverse effects on the National Health System during a pandemic. In this paper, the authors present data on these factors and combine them to create an index to show which areas are more exposed. This technique can help policymakers moderate the impact of similar pandemics.
