Recent national surveys of young people have shown alarming increases in the prevalence of certain mental health challenges. We know that mental health is shaped by many factors, from our genes and brain chemistry to our relationships with family and friends, neighborhood conditions, and larger social forces and policies. As we learn the lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic, and start recovering and rebuilding, we have an opportunity. Everyone has a role to play in combating this mental health pandemic. Ensuring healthy children and families will take an all-of-society effort, including policy, institutional, and individual changes. This advisory provides actionable recommendations for young people and their families, schools and health care systems, tech and media companies, employers, community organizations and governments alike. Mental health challenges are treatable and often preventable. This advisory shows how.

Systematic Review/Meta-Analysis
This article described a systematic analysis of various telehealth interventions designed to increase access to mental health services for ethnic minority and Indigenous peoples. The review included 58 articles of interventions culturally tailored to the following populations: Indigenous, African American, Hispanic/Latino, Chinese, and Korean populations. Some key themes included community involvement, quality service delivery, enhanced access and rapport, and multi-organizational partnerships.

This resources summarizes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on substance use and the experiences of people who used drugs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Highlights include: the pandemic increased the risk of overdose for people who use drugs, and in response people who use drugs reported using more harm reduction strategies. The pandemic also motivated change in wanting to quit drug use for study participants, but also highlighted the social determinants of health as barriers to sustainable recovery.

This article recognizes the challenges and describes the adaptations necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. It also emphasizes employee mental health needs. A theoretical framework for organizational interventions is included that utilizes an Occupational Health Psychology approach. This is a list of recommendations based on a review of the literature focusing on promoting health equity in the delivery of virtual care. The authors conducted a narrative review of literature on health equity and virtual care during the COVID-19 pandemic published in 2020, describing strategies that have been proposed in the literature at three levels: (1) policy and government, (2) organizations and health systems, and (3) communities and patients. They discuss three strategies for promoting health equity through virtual care: (1) simplifying complex interfaces and workflows, (2) using supportive intermediaries, and (3) creating mechanisms through which marginalized community members can provide immediate input into the planning and delivery of virtual care.

This article is a review of legal issues impacting Tribal public health during the pandemic. Most notably the article highlights the failure of the federal government to adequately support American Indians and Alaska Natives, as well as the impacts and importance of Tribal authority/jurisdiction in creating culturally appropriate public health measures.
