This resource discusses public transportation as a strategy to reduce healthy inequity. This policy brief details how public transportation options can improve health and health equity by reducing traffic crashes and air pollution, increasing physical activity, and improving access to medical care, healthy food, vital services, employment, and social connection. The brief explains how public transportation is funded, a few interventions that align transportation and public health goals, as well as guidance for future work.

This study of a community-based and bilingual nutrition and health program called the Eat Healthy Program in New York City presents findings to understand potential behavior changes among participants and how the program is integrated into a larger neighborhood health strategy in Harlem. The Eat Healthy Program educated participants on healthy nutrition and living, gave out farmers’ market coupons. Focus groups showed that participants adopted new healthy behaviors as a result, although some barriers to healthy living persisted. The findings suggested that this type of health promotion program as a part of a neighborhood health strategy may be an effective model for impacting health behavior and the utilization of local farmers’ markets in low income neighborhoods of color.

This document uses local Massachusetts and national data sources to examine multiple factors for health inequities among racial minorities within the state. The primer covers demographic profiles, social drivers of health, access to coverage and care, service utilization, health outcomes, and the disparate impact of COVID-19 with infographics across multiple areas of health.
