Peer Review Study
This article evaluates a partnership between the University of Maryland, Baltimore – an urban academic treatment center – and multiple rural behavioral health treatment centers to provide medication assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals with opioid use disorder via videoconference. Retention rates and toxicology results for patients who received MAT via videoconference were comparable to those receiving face-to-face treatment. It should be noted that data for this study were collected prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Peer Review Study
This article presents the results of a non-randomized controlled trial comparing in-person vs. telemedicine treatment for pregnant women with opioid use disorder in South Carolina. The authors found no statistically significant difference in treatment outcomes for women who received care in-person vs. via telemedicine, and no statistically significant difference in outcomes for the newborns of women in these respective groups. The authors were unable to assign trial participants to telemedicine vs. in-person care at random due to the inability of some rural patients to attend treatment in person. Also, the sample size was not sufficient to achieve ~80% power to detect a difference between the two groups. At the same time, the practice strategy is considered useful for helping to deliver telehealth treatment for vulnerable populations, including pregnant and newly parenting people with substance use disorder, and people living in rural communities.

Summary Report/Recommendations
This article identifies best practices and recommendations for providing gender-affirming telepsychology treatment to transgender and gender diverse individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The article discusses ethical and clinical issues for optimizing care. The practice strategy this article is focused on is gender-affirming mental health care.

Peer Review Study
This practice details the use of a classroom based, culturally grounded curriculum to prevent substance use among rural Hawaiian youth. Youth were exposed to the curriculum over a period of 2 years, and although substance use increased among control and intervention groups, the intervention group had significantly smaller increases. The curriculum focuses on resistance skills training for middle school aged youth, using video vignettes of Hawaiian youth engaged in realistic drug-related problem situations. Similar approaches could prove useful when informing Hawaiian youth about COVID-19 mitigation strategies.

Case Study, Peer Review Study
This was a randomized, quasi-experimental study of an intervention that was implemented among rural and urban populations to encourage online grocery shopping and more nutritious food purchases. The authors targeted rural counties with high poverty rates for recruitment. The results showed that online shopping can improve food shopping habits and accessibility.

Case Study
This case study described a partnership to rapidly deliver food to isolated and quarantined individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in response to a COVID-19 surge in June 2020. An existing community-based participatory research group in Northwest Arkansas utilized diverse partnerships that were possible due to existing relationships established before the pandemic and leveraged to rapidly deploy the food delivery program. This case study demonstrates how this program can serve as a model for other organizations doing similar work.

Data Collection Tool
The Mapping Medicare Disparities (MMD) Population View provides a user-friendly way to explore and better understand disparities in chronic diseases, and allows users to: (1) visualize health outcome measures at a national, state, or county level; (2) explore health outcome measures by age, sex, race and ethnicity; (3) compare differences between two geographic locations (e.g., benchmark against the national average); and (4) compare differences between two racial and ethnic groups within the same geographic area.

White Paper/Brief
The paper outlines the work of the Gender Harmony Project, which has developed a gender-inclusive Health Level Seven International (HL7) logical model: the HL7 Gender Harmony Model. The Gender Harmony Model is a logical model that provides a standardized approach that is both backwards-compatible and an improvement to the meaningful capture of gender identity, recorded sex or recorded gender, sex for clinical use, the name to use, and pronouns that are affirmative and inclusive of gender-marginalized people. The Gender Harmony Project was formed to create more inclusive health information exchange standards to enable a safer, higher-quality, and embracing healthcare experience. The Gender Harmony Model provides the informative guidance for standards for developers to implement a more thorough technical design that improves the narrow binary design used in many legacy clinical systems.

Summary Report/Recommendations
To begin bridging the gap in knowledge about COVID-19 risk among sexual minority adults, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention examined disparities between sexual minority and heterosexual adults in the prevalence of underlying conditions with strong or mixed evidence of associations with severe COVID-19-related illness, by using data from the 2017–2019 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). Collecting data on sexual orientation in COVID-19 surveillance and other studies would improve knowledge about disparities in infection and adverse outcomes by sexual orientation, thereby informing more equitable responses to the pandemic.
