This article examines a cohort study of children in England to determine a possible association between COVID-19 testing rates, COVID-19 mortality rates, and race. Results found that Asian and Black children experienced race-specific disparities when compared to white children, with white children receiving more COVID-19 testing, but Black and Asian children experiencing worse outcomes, including hospitalization, ICU admission, and death.

This article describes the survey results of 33 Black adolescents (ages 12-17) living in Southeastern United States during the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey illustrates stressors and barriers for these teenagers, citing financial issues, access to health care, and increased mental health strain as key issues during the pandemic. This article parallels the works of the multidisciplinary academic group on children and coronavirus (MACC) in Israel with a multidisciplinary team from John Hopkins’ own efforts to create data-driven solutions to minimize health and education inequities for children throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This project produced several outputs including a series of free, web-based, school-reopening modules for school and district administrators; a 2020-2021 School Reopening Tracker based on publicly available data sources; a Teacher & School Staff Vaccination COVID-19 Dashboard; and a COVID-19 Global Education Recovery Tracker. This study examined internet access and mode of access by social class, race, and ethnicity among youth in the U.S. to gain insight on whether these vulnerable populations experienced disparities in access and health education. The study found that low-income Black and Hispanic youth are least likely to have access to internet at home, meaning web-based dissemination of health information is not reaching this population.

This blueprint presents recommendations for Illinois to reduce health disparities in rural areas. Recommendations include (1) investing in programs to recruit and retain rural health care workers; (2) improving rural data systems; (3) integrating health care and social services in rural areas; (4) increasing communication between rural health organizations and public health departments; and (5) creating a rural innovation center to coordinate data, policies, and strategies across state agencies.
