The article describes hyper-local vaccine approaches to address COVID-19 vaccine disparities. The Equity-First Vaccine initiative is funded by The Rockefeller Foundation and provides support to 5 anchor sites across the U.S. to support community based organizations in implementing hyper-local vaccine approaches. These approaches are designed to reach communities facing vaccine disparities, through 5 key strategies: information, physical accessibility, trustworthiness, technology, and cost. A discussion of needs to increase sustainability is also included in the article, and covers topics like policy leadership, funding, technical assistance, and access to data.

This report is part of a collaboration between Phreesia, a health care technology firm, the Commonwealth Fund, and Harvard University researchers. The authors of the report interviewed primary care providers at practices that use Phreesia technology and have taken part in vaccination campaigns about the barriers and challenges they encountered to participating in these campaigns. The article offers take-aways for policymakers and other providers on how to reduce barriers to vaccination in primary care, which will be critical to promoting COVID-19 vaccine uptake in future years. The practice strategy this article is focused on is promoting vaccine access and uptake.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) initiated a quality improvement project to improve use of data for action to promote racial equity. To address the challenges identified in the study, the team identified potential solutions and prioritized development and piloting of the MDPH Racial Equity Data Road Map (Road Map). The Road Map framework provides strategies for data collection and uses that to support the direction of actionable data-driven resources to racial inequities. The Road Map is a resource to support programs to authentically engage communities; frame data in the broader contexts that impact health; and design solutions that address root causes.

The article discusses the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) redesign and stakeholder engagement in 2020. It describes data collection and data release adaptations CHIS made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, considers the implications of these changes on data quality, and discusses future implications on data collection for population-based surveys such as the CHIS. The two principal objectives are strongly aligned with the policy data demands of understanding the unequal toll of the pandemic on California counties and on racial and ethnic groups.

This study discusses the creation of a dataset that tracked COVID-19 cases and deaths by municipalities in New Jersey from April 22, 2020, to December 31, 2020. Data were drawn primarily from official county and municipality websites. Municipality-level data are essential for advancing more targeted and nuanced understanding of geographic-based risk and resilience associated with COVID-19.

The paper outlines the work of the Gender Harmony Project, which has developed a gender-inclusive Health Level Seven International (HL7) logical model: the HL7 Gender Harmony Model. The Gender Harmony Model is a logical model that provides a standardized approach that is both backwards-compatible and an improvement to the meaningful capture of gender identity, recorded sex or recorded gender, sex for clinical use, the name to use, and pronouns that are affirmative and inclusive of gender-marginalized people. The Gender Harmony Project was formed to create more inclusive health information exchange standards to enable a safer, higher-quality, and embracing healthcare experience. The Gender Harmony Model provides the informative guidance for standards for developers to implement a more thorough technical design that improves the narrow binary design used in many legacy clinical systems.
