This article summarizes the challenges COVID-19 poses to African American communities, policy considerations, and recommendations based on community members/community-based participatory research. Recommendations include: (1) Promote local community leadership to proactively inform mitigation strategies; (2) Strategically engage public health and community-attuned policy leaders and prioritize community stimulus strategies; (3) Cultivate community-informed public health disaster health literacy; (4) Foster culturally tailored behavioral and mental health dialogue and response; (5) Prioritize patient-centered medical homes and neighborhood models and (6) Redefine essential workers.

This article summarizes the approach taken by Florida CBO the Contigo Fund, which created two relief funds to address structural inequities among the LGBTQ+ and Black communities. These funds were used to provide grants to other organizations that support these communities and direct small grants to applicants.

This article summarizes the approach one vaccine collaborative in Philadelphia, PA took to address vaccination inequity among Black community members. The intervention utilized community partners to build trust and encourage community members to schedule vaccinations at a clinic through a low-tech platform. These vaccination clinics were also designed to minimize wait times.

This case study describes a secondary purpose of Chicago’s Racial Equity Rapid Response Team, which is to improve health outcomes among communities that have been most heavily impacted. The work has included campaigns, town halls, prevention programs, city testing sites, and securing grant funding.
