Case Study
The case study outlines how Solano Public Health used funding to create a Race Equity Team, which conducted trainings internally and built relationships with external partners to address policy changes focused on racial equity. The Solano Public Health Division used this grant funding to work with community partners and other government agencies to undertake projects focused in low-resourced neighborhoods, such as conducting healthy store makeovers, adopting and implementing policies to increase access to water in parks and schools, improving clinical prevention referrals, and introducing policies that address access and exposure to tobacco. Of note, much of this work has focused on racial equity in the realm of chronic disease prevention in low-resourced neighborhoods.

Case Study
This article outlines how Rice County Public Health (RCPH) used a health equity data analysis tool to complete an assessment of internal policies and practices related to health equity. Given this assessment, RCPH developed a health equity plan with seven recommended practices to implement, and RCPH created trainings to increase staff awareness of health equity.

Case Study
The case study outlines how the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) created a dedicated health equity team that put together a Health Equity Assessment report, which, in turn, allowed TPCHD to create a variety of tools, including maps and short documents, to help advance health equity. TPCHD also hired a health equity coordinator who uses these tools to encourage partner government agencies to prioritize health equity. These tools also inform internal policies at TPCHD, particularly around program planning and implementation.

The case study outlines how the city of King County created an interbranch team to focus on developing tools and policies to focus on equity across all government departments. The team has focused on providing trainings and assistance, helping with equity strategic planning and implementation, and training teams within each agency/department to focus on equity.

This report outlines the catalyzing conditions for sustaining healthy communities, with the central premise being community power-building approaches. Public health partners can use this roadmap to build community power, which includes setting agendas, changing public discourse, building relationships with decision makers, and creating governance structures. The report also highlights sixteen community power-building efforts across the United States.

Peer Review Study
This report examines decarceration as a public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic. People in correctional facilities are more susceptible to COVID-19 for a wide variety of reasons, including overcrowding and higher rates of pre-existing conditions. Public health agencies can advocate for these decarceration policies or participate directly in discharge planning or health care provision to these vulnerable populations.

Summary Report/Recommendations
This framework focuses on strategies and action steps recommended for health departments to enhance access to testing, quality care, and prevention methods in correctional/incarceration facilities. This resource opines that health departments, which often provide health care in carceral settings or contract private organizations to provide health care, should strengthen health care services for incarcerated people. All people, regardless of whether they are incarcerated, should have immediate access to testing, care, and the ability to protect themselves from disease.

Panels of distinguished authors and experts presented their work at a virtual symposium in the February 2022 issue of Health Affairs, “Racism & Health.” They discussed the historical context, the evolving research practices and policies, and the lived experience of populations whose health has been harmed by individual and structural racism.
