This article describes how Louisiana’s COVID-19 Health Equity Task face intends to develop a health equity dashboard to measure testing access for all communities and provide recommendations of best practices for medical organizations. Tennessee’s Department of Health and Office of Minority Health’s Health Disparity Task Force also developed three COVID-19 surveillance dashboards specifically tracking pregnancies, disparities, and cases among school-aged children.

This article describes how California’s Department of Public Health developed a health equity metric for counties to either meet or demonstrate targeted investments to eliminate COVID-19 related health disparities. The metric specifies that counties with fewer than 106,000 residents demonstrate these targeted investments, while those with more than 106,000 residents must ensure that the COVID-19 test positivity rates in disadvantaged neighborhoods do not significantly lag behind the rest of the county. They also assembled the Health Equity Technical Assistance Team to collaborate with organizations to improve and form best practices and resources.

This report describes how health departments are uniquely positioned to serve as experts and advisors in community health issues, and can provide key information to underline existing disparities. They are also positioned to coordinate partnerships between different sectors, play an advisory role in decision-making, and ensure investment efforts are aligned with Community Health Assessments and Community Health Needs Assessments, and that these efforts truly advance health equity. Public health departments have expertise on potential government sources of funding and have experience in community engagement.
