This research paper discusses various public health agency websites and official government websites in countries with more than 5,000 confirmed COVID cases. The researchers used various methods to determine the readability level of the websites. The researchers found that official COVID information put out by states often exceeded the recommended reading level, while federal information was found to be much more readable, most likely due to federal mandates for readability. Recommendations are to use plain-language COVID resources to be more accessible to all audiences.

This study focuses on qualitative data collected to better understand the experiences of adults living with long-COVID in the United Kingdom who participate in online support groups. These support groups were predominantly conducted through Facebook and WhatsApp, and individuals were asked to reflect on how they engage with the support groups and what external influences are influencing their experience with long-COVID. Participants explained that the support groups provided a place to connect with others, advocate for needed resources and information, and share therapies and management techniques in the absence of clear instruction from the medical community. Additional benefits included diversity of participants, reduced feelings of isolation, and improved mental wellbeing through validation and encouragement. Negative aspects of the support groups included challenges with the amount of stories and information shared, limited in-person interaction, and increased burden on group moderators.

This study examines the challenges of using community-based participatory research (CBPR) approaches during the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 brings unique challenges to this approach due to social distancing and the closure of key community organizations. They identify three key challenges: flexibility to pivot when needed, inequity in research participation, and the well-being of the research team. The study focuses on impacts for immigrant and communities of color and examines intersectionality’s with age and gender.

Due to the geographic origins of the first major outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China, individuals of Chinese ethnic origin around the world have experienced discrimination, xenophobia, and racism during the pandemic. While reports have highlighted such incidents, this paper argues that when the conversation starts and stops at the reporting of experiences of stigma, the narrative remains as the victimization of the community. Instead, instances of COVID-19 stigma and discrimination are only one aspect of this story, where other aspects include a deeper understanding of the community itself. Highlighting the early actions that the community took to help broader society in dealing with COVID-19 at the start of the pandemic may help reframe anti-Chinese stigma during the pandemic.

The researchers tested the effectiveness of “Go Viral!”, a 5-minute online game designed to improve players’ ability to spot COVID-19-related misinformation, in comparison to a passive “prebunking” intervention (UNESCO infographics) and to a control group. The authors found that “Go Viral!” improves players’ ability to spot misinformation, as well as their confidence in their ability to spot misinformation. This effect remains at least one week after playing the game. While the UNESCO infographics also improved viewers’ ability to spot misinformation and their confidence in their ability to spot misinformation, the effect size for “Go Viral!” was larger, and the players reported being more likely to share “Go Viral!” with their networks on social media compared with the group that viewed the graphics. While the results are promising, there are several limitations. The study did not include an explicit equity focus and the game is not accessible to individuals without internet.

Systematic Review/Meta-Analysis
This article presents the results of a rapid review of community engagement strategies used in response to three recent epidemics, Ebola, Zika, and H1N1. The review included 32 studies representing 37 initiatives as well as 11 guideline articles, included for reference and context purposes. Facilitators and barriers to implementing equitable community interventions are described, in addition to best practices and a discussion of how prior lessons learned can be implemented for COVID-19.

This is a rapid review of peer-reviewed and grey literature summarizing guidance for the prevention and control of COVID-19 in custodial settings in the first six months of 2020. The review summarizes global recommendations across 19 domains including: preparedness; physical environments; case identification, screening, and management; communication; external access and visitation; psychological and emotional support; recreation, legal, and health service adaptation; decarceration; release and community reintegration; workforce logistics; surveillance and information sharing; independent monitoring; compensatory measures; lifting control measures; evaluation; and key populations/ settings. The authors also identify a few conflicting recommendations.

This article outlines a framework for data collection among communities of color based on a project by local organizations in Canada. The authors also discuss their encounter with data gaps and provide recommendations and strategies for policymakers and community/health stakeholders on how to improve, use, and analyze disaggregated data. As part of the Strengthening Disaggregated Sociodemographic Data Related to COVID-19 project with the Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership (OLIP) and the University of Ottawa, a framework for guiding equitable data collection and use was created.
