This paper describes how a local public health agency joined a multi-sector community partnership made up of community-based organizations, clinical providers, and peer navigators and others with lived experience of homelessness. Together, this group created a strategic plan to lessen the impact of COVID-19 on people experiencing homelessness. They prioritized education, increased resource allocation and testing in shelters, and slated housing for those who tested positive or those at increased risk of COVID complications. Most of this work took place in shelters.

This case study describes how the Massachusetts Department of Public Health has partnered with a wide range of community-based organizations to ensure food security. Before the pandemic, these partners worked together to change policies related to food security, while, during the pandemic, this partnership allowed communities to quickly provide emergency food distribution. Through this network, the department and communities both created guidelines to address food securities and worked to outreach to communities about these strategies, including by reaching individuals in their languages.

This article summarizes COVID-19 mitigation within the Blackfeet Tribal Reservation and changes in incidence depending on the enforcement of masking, stay-at-home orders, and contact tracing. The combination of these efforts was associated with a 33-fold reduction in COVID-19 incidence from October 5 to November 7 in 2020.

This article lists key findings and considerations for jurisdictions and communities regarding ongoing COVID-19 pandemic operations across the country as they relate to persons with disabilities. For example, individuals may need additional support to shop online for food or connect with organizations for food access. In addition, access to COVID-19 information may be difficult to access if websites are not 508 compliant, and a lack of internet access can compound challenges. Finally, some case studies are included for how communities responded to these challenges.

The Rebuilding Neighborhoods Initiative convened community organizers, small business owners, and corporations in the technology and innovation sector to develop community-centered, implementable solutions addressing gentrification and the lack of affordable housing in three greater Boston neighborhoods. Six monthly meetings were held on topics related to affordable housing. Each neighborhood had a team of 5-6 individuals who were developing and committing to shared goals towards equitable development.

This article summarizes prevention strategies implemented in Georgia schools, focusing on ventilation improvements and mandatory masking as strategies to reduce COVID-19. Before vaccination availability, incidence of COVID-19 was 37% lower among schools that required staff to mask.

The case study outlines how Solano Public Health used funding to create a Race Equity Team, which conducted trainings internally and built relationships with external partners to address policy changes focused on racial equity. The Solano Public Health Division used this grant funding to work with community partners and other government agencies to undertake projects focused in low-resourced neighborhoods, such as conducting healthy store makeovers, adopting and implementing policies to increase access to water in parks and schools, improving clinical prevention referrals, and introducing policies that address access and exposure to tobacco. Of note, much of this work has focused on racial equity in the realm of chronic disease prevention in low-resourced neighborhoods.
