This blueprint presents recommendations for Illinois to reduce health disparities in rural areas. Recommendations include (1) investing in programs to recruit and retain rural health care workers; (2) improving rural data systems; (3) integrating health care and social services in rural areas; (4) increasing communication between rural health organizations and public health departments; and (5) creating a rural innovation center to coordinate data, policies, and strategies across state agencies.

This guide provides tools for states, counties, and city health departments to advance community-based workforce principles. It provides an overview, suggested strategies, and resources for adopting the six principles. The principles include: recruiting with a racial equity framework; investing in trusted voices (including community health workers); strengthening connections with psychosocial services; embedding job training and pipelines to careers; launching community-based jobs programs; and strengthening community funding.

This article describes how Delaware’s Department of Public Health tracks geographic areas with low vaccination uptake and compares this data with information on areas of high social vulnerability as determined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Social Vulnerability Index. The department also works with federally qualified health centers, providers, and pharmacies to deliver services to historically marginalized populations in the state.
