This article details the Project HAPPY (HIV/AIDS Prevention Project for Youth) and how it engaged Black/African-American youth through research and implementation of the project. Youth were a part of expert panel that reviewed proposed HIV/AIDS curricula. and did outreach to get youth enrolled in the program. They recruited 431 teens and enrolled 57%, with 72% of enrolled youth attending all sessions.

This case study outlines how Sonoma County Department of Health Services created a framework called Health Action, outlining goals for improving the most pressing health disparities in their region. The study also describes how the Department convened a collaborative Health Action Council, comprised of community partners to address the key indicators of health outlined in the framework. They created a report based in data to align the work of the Department and its partners in order to more effectively address health disparities. Some of the most pressing problems identified included disparities around education and the relationship between education and health. Formation of Health Action has resulted in multiple groups using the strategic plan to inform their efforts.

The case study outlines how the city of King County created an interbranch team to focus on developing tools and policies to focus on equity across all government departments. The team has focused on providing trainings and assistance, helping with equity strategic planning and implementation, and training teams within each agency/department to focus on equity.

The City of Lancaster (PA) commissioned 10 local artists to get essential COVID-19 related messaging out to the public. This project was executed from planning to installation in 30 days. By using artwork to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, the power of art shines brightly in Lancaster. This video explains how the City of Lancaster identified the placement of each public service announcement temporary mural for COVID-19 outreach/education/communications using data to target areas with vulnerable populations.

The Neighborhood Atlas website was created in order to freely share measures of neighborhood disadvantage with the public, including educational institutions, health systems, not-for-profit organizations, and government agencies, in order to make these metrics available for use in research, program planning, and policy development. The Area Deprivation Index allows for rankings of neighborhoods by socioeconomic disadvantage in a region of interest (e.g., at the state or national level). It includes factors for the theoretical domains of income, education, employment, and housing quality.
