Peer Review Study
The authors explored the ways Ultra-Orthodox Jews in Israel learned about the pandemic and examined their COVID-19-related decision-making. Drawing on the disproportionate magnitude of COVID-19-related morbidity on Israel’s Ultra-Orthodox Jews, the authors examined their processes of COVID-19 health decision-making. Survey results show that both religious and health-related justifications were common for personal decisions, yet a disparity was found between the ways social distancing guidelines were perceived in the general education context compared to a religious context, signaling the importance for inclusive models of science communication that account for religious sensibilities and state-minority relations.

Peer Review Study
The authors examine how the intersection of race and religion influences perceptions of COVID-19 vaccinations. Data for this study come from online surveys conducted in 12 congregations between October and December 2020. The findings suggest that the intersection of race and religion should be considered when designing immunization programs, for instance by fostering collaborations and dialogue with faith leaders of racial minority congregations.

Peer Review Study
This study evaluated the association between receipt of unemployment insurance, including a $600/week federal supplement between April and July 2020, and food insecurity among people who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors found that among the study cohort, receiving unemployment insurance was associated with large reductions in food insecurity among people who lost employment during the pandemic. The $600/week federal supplement and larger amounts of unemployment insurance were associated with larger reductions in food insecurity.

The COVID-19 U.S. State Policy (CUSP) database documents the dates all 50 states and the District of Columbia implemented health and social policies to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic ramifications. CUSP is designed to be a tool for researchers, policymakers, the media, and the public to better understand how policies impact population health and health equity. The CUSP team tracks when and how states implemented over 200 policies during the COVID-19 pandemic and includes original source documentation.

Summary Report/Recommendations
Researchers, journalists, public health officials, and policymakers can take a few important steps to address insufficient contextualization when documenting COVID-19 racial disparities, especially in the public sphere. This article reviews those steps and ways to contextualize COVID-19 racial disparities data with adequate analysis. Disparity figures without explanatory context can perpetuate harmful myths and misunderstandings that actually undermine the goal of eliminating health inequities.
